Cotton Paper
Tree-free; recycled content varies by mill
Cotton fiber, no wood pulp

What it is and what it suits
Cotton paper is made from cotton fiber instead of wood pulp. Most cotton printing papers use cotton linters, the short fibers left on the seed after the longer cotton is taken for textiles. The result is a soft, strong sheet with a gentle texture and a natural white or ecru color.
We print on 110lb cotton cover for invitations, cards and stationery where the feel of the paper is part of the design.

How cotton paper prints
Cotton paper is soft enough to take a deep letterpress impression, and it holds foil stamping and blind debossing well. Ink sinks into the surface a little, so colors print slightly softer than on a coated sheet. That suits type, line art and simple illustrations. For photographs and heavy color, a smooth recycled sheet usually prints sharper.
Cotton paper and the environment
Cotton paper is a tree-free sheet, and the linters it is made from are a byproduct of cotton processing. Uncoated cotton paper can usually go in paper recycling. Recycled content and certifications vary by mill, so ask for the details of the sheet we quote for your job. For most everyday printing, 100% post-consumer recycled paper is still the simplest low impact choice. Our guide to types of paper for printing compares the options.
