Ask specific questions and expect specific answers. A printer that works with sustainable materials every day should be able to tell you the following without much trouble.
- The post-consumer recycled percentage of the stock being quoted, not just the word "recycled."
- The FSC chain of custody information for the paper, provided on request.
- Which inks are used, such as soy or vegetable-based inks.
- Whether the paper is processed chlorine free, rather than ECF.
- How waste is handled, and whether they will help you order a run size you will actually use.
- Whether their claims match the documentation they can provide.
Be cautious of broad claims with no detail behind them. Our standard materials are described on the why eco printing page, and you are welcome to include any of these questions when you request a quote.
